The IPA Hymn was created in 1966 by IPA France members, and has since remained the official anthem of the IPA. The words were written in French by Pierre-Marie Guillemot, and the music was composed by Alfred Couat. The IPA Hymn was first played at the 8th IEC held in Toronto, Canada in 1966, where the orchestrations were carried out by the Band of the French National Police under its Deputy Principal Officer, Pierre Bigot. The title of the IPA Hymn is ‘Servir par l’Amitié’, which translates to the IPA’s motto – ‘Service through Friendship’.
Verse 1:
Un flambeau d’amitié,
Au-dessus des frontières,
Pour chaque policier
Rayonne comme un soleil,
Et sur tous les pays,
Se répand la lumière
Dans l’infini
D’un même ciel.
(Chorus)
Verse 2:
Nous avons en commun
L’armour de la justice
Et nous tendons la main
A tous ses défenseurs
Pour célébrer le nom
Et le grand sacrifice
De ceux qui sont
Morts dans l’honneur.
(Chorus)
Verse 3:
Gloire à tous nos amis
Que le devoir supreme
Trouve toujours unis,
Sans crainte du danger,
Servant au premier rang
Et s’exposant eux-mêmes
En protégeant
La liberté.
(Chorus)
Chorus:
Au service du Bien,
Chevaliers de la Paix,
Rendons notre mission plus belle
Dans le Coeur de chacun,
La devise éternelle
Sera : Servir per l’Amitié.
